Top 10 Tuesday | Ten Quick Reads!

ttt

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely people at The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s prompt is related to books we consider to be quick reads, whether those be books we read in one sitting, the shortest books we have read or books that are great when you are short on time. I’ve done a combination of everything to give you a list of 10 books I consider to be quick reads!

1. We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

We Should All Be Feminists

Number of Pages: 52

This essay from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a very quick read but is powerful in so many ways. I know it is certainly something I will reread multiple times in the future.

2. Very Good Lives by J. K. Rowling

Very Good Lives: The Fringe Benefits of Failure and the Importance of Imagination

Number of Pages: 74

Another super quick but inspirational read. I loved reading this and really took on J. K. Rowling’s wonderful words.

3. George by Alex Gino

George

Number of Pages: 195

This is a really important and touching read. This is a book that I would love to see being read more in schools as I think it is of such value to people of all ages but especially children/teenagers.

4. The Grownup by Gillian Flynn

  The Grownup

Number of Pages: 97

I really enjoyed all three of Gillian Flynn’s books and when this came out I immediately had to read it. It’s super short but captured a lot of what I enjoy about Flynn’s writing. I would have liked this to be much longer but it definitely is a quick read.

5. Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell

Kindred Spirits

Number of Pages: 62

Despite not being the world’s biggest Star Wars fan, there was still plenty about this novella that I enjoyed. A must read for fans of Rainbow Rowell (and Star Wars!).

6. The Princess Saves Herself in This One by Amanda Lovelace

The Princess Saves Herself in this One

Number of Pages: 156

I do not read a lot of poetry but I had seen a huge amount of praise for this collection and I was not disappointed. I really felt the growth throughout these poems and the last section in particular made me feel very emotional.

7. Ms. Marvel Vol. 1 by G. Willow Wilson & Adrian Alphona

Ms. Marvel, Vol. 1: No Normal

Number of Pages: 120

I occasionally dabble with graphic novels but not often. Ms Marvel was absolutely fantastic and is also a diverse novel. The illustrations are gorgeous and I’ve heard that the series gets better from here!

8. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

A Monster Calls

Number of Pages: 237

Maybe not the shortest of books when yo look at the page number but I couldn’t put this book down. It is so haunting and beautifully written that before I knew it I had read the whole thing and was sobbing in a ball on the sofa. If you haven’t read this yet then I really urge you too but get the tissues ready!

9. The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint-Exupery

The Little Prince

Number of Pages: 96

Words don’t do this beautiful little story justice. What a gorgeous yet sad read. Reading it as an adult, this book makes me pine for my childhood. This book really reflects that feeling when you realise your childhood has come to an end and that small part of you feels like it has died. It really makes you want to think differently about the world. I don’t want to be one of the adults who seemed so strange to the Little Prince, but I think it’s inevitable that in some way or another we all are.

10. Nasty Women edited by 404 Ink

Nasty Women

Number of Pages: 240

Nasty Women is a wonderful collection of essays from a diverse collection of wonderful women. I am currently urging everyone to read this book because it has something we can all relate to but most importantly I believe it has something to teach us all.

  2. I need to read Very Good Lives, I think there’s a pdf version out there, but I would much rather read the book version of it.
And when I saw “The Princess Saves Herself In This One”, the book cover reminded me of a Cards Against Humanity card! Haha :p
