Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely people at The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s prompt is for the top 10 unique books I’ve read but this wasn’t tickling my pickle this week (so to speak!) so I thought I would pick another topic that was done previously which I hadn’t done. I’ve decided to to go with 10 series I’ve started but haven’t finished yet!
1. The Maze Runner Trilogy by James Dashner
I’ve read The Maze Runner but it just didn’t capture me in the way I had been hoping. I think that maybe I left it a little late for myself with this one. I liked it enough that maybe one day I’ll go back to the other books but I’ve not heard the best things!
2. A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket
I’ve only actually read the first book in this series and there are 13 in total (woops!). I like these stories and having seen the film and TV show I have a good idea of what happens. That doesn’t mean I won’t finish the series in the future but it’s not on the top of my to-read list for the foreseeable future!
3. Me Before You duology by Jojo Moyes
I read Me Before You last year and it reduced me to a sobbing mess (the film also did this). I have After You on my tbr for this year but I’m not sure how I feel about it given how the first book ends.
4. Dublin Murder Squad series by Tana French
When I read Into the Woods by Tana French I knew I would end up loving her stories and wanting to read more of them. I love a good thriller and she had me hooked but then I discovered that the other books in this series don’t all follow the characters I had come to know and love in the first book. From what I’ve read I think there are links so maybe I’ll return to the series one day! Her writing is definitely worth it.
5. Bill Hodges trilogy by Stephen King
There was something about Mr Mercedes that just hooked me. I’ve not read a huge amount of King’s work but I did enjoy this first book in the trilogy and expect to return to it soon.
6. The Giver quartet by Lois Lowry
I must admit that the only reason I ever read The Giver is because Meryl Streep was in the movie and I’m a huge fan of hers. I did enjoy the book though and thought the whole concept was really interesting. I’d love to hear from anyone who has read the rest of the series over whether it would be worth finishing, it’s never even crossed my mind to read more of it!
7. Robert Langdon series by Dan Brown
I’ve read Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code and enjoyed both. I have to admit that I am a huge sucker for the Robert Langdon movies and have a soft spot for Tom Hanks in that role. For some reason I’ve just not gotten around to reading the other books in the series! Plus this series just keeps on growing, I’ve just seen there is another coming out this year!
8. You by Caroline Kepnes
It is safe to say that You was one of the most uncomfortable and disturbing books that I have read. Whilst I enjoyed it enough I’ve always been unsure about returning to this series.
9. The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger
Another book that I read because of Meryl Streep! The Devil Wears Prada is one of my favourite movies and I thought the book was okay (one of those rare moments where I saw the movie first!). I think I’ve got a copy of Revenge Wears Prada on my Kindle somewhere…
10. Maya Angelou’s Autobiography
Gorgeous covers alert!! I absolutely adored I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and I really need to find the time to sit and read the rest of these. I think there will be a lot of learn from Maya Angelou and her many experiences.

NGL I hadn’t heard of all of these, but I too am guilty of never finishing A Series of Unfortunate Events.

If you didn’t really care for the first Maze Runner, you won’t like the rest. The first book was by far the best. The rest go downhill from there.
I actually decided NOT to read After You because I think it will ruin how much I liked Me Before You. I don’t think it needed a sequel.
I’ve read Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers. Finders Keepers is more of a side plot. The book is good as its own, but Bill and the gang are not really in it much… I do hope to finish with End of Watch this year.

The Scorch Trial was actually my favourite in The Maze Runner series 😂 but I HATED the last book SOOO MUCH. It made me wish I never read the series 😂 I need to finish ASoUE (I’m up to book 5! I kinda lost my stride once the Netflix series finished haha, but I really want to continue!) and read Hidden Boddies too! I’ve been a bit hesitant to with Hidden Bodies because I’ve heard it doesn’t live up to You and I loved that one.

After You is nothing like Me Before You. It doesn’t have the emotional fallout. It’s good, but not amazing. I have a feeling it’s just a branch to the next, more emotional book. I thought it was worth reading.

I often find it hard to keep reading a series if I have to wait for a long time between books. I have so many half finished series on my TBR list, it’s rather daunting. Great post!

I still need to finish the giver series! I loved the first book (it was a great concept and was a nice easy read too). As for the maze runner… I had to DNF the death cure, I just decided I didn’t have time to read a book I’m not enjoying!

A few people have said the same to me about The Death Cure, it has really put me off especially as I only thought the first one was okay! I’m not sure I’ll ever finish The Giver quartet but I did really enjoy the first one!

I thought the maze runner had a really good concept but I just didn’t find the writing style done it justice. There’s so many books in the world we can read and I think there are some series not worth putting the effort in when we have such little time aha

Most of the people who’ve read After You said that it ruined the duology, so I’ve been hesitant to pick it up at the bookstore. And although the Maze Runner series is amazing (overall), I personally think that the ending of The Death Cure was super disappointing! I really recommend the prequels though!

A few people have told me to read the second book of the Maze Runner but then to not bother with the final one! I’m also hesitant about After You as I felt Me Before You wrapped up neatly. I’ve got a copy on my shelf but it’s not a priority at the moment!

I felt exactly the same about Maze Runner, I actually persevered through Scorch Trials and then gave the books away (I’d bought the boxset expecting to love them). It just wasn’t for me. Also, I adored Me Before You but am not bothered about reading After You because I was satisfied with the end and don’t want to ruin the story in my head. You sounds intriguing, I’ll have to look that one up! And I bought my dad Finders Keepers last year before realising it wasn’t a standalone so I’ll have to get him Mr Mercedes to read first 😊

I feel similarly about After You as I don’t really see how a sequel was needed! It’s on my shelf but I may never get to it! We shall see!
