Top 10 Tuesday | 10 Middle Grade books I want to read in 2018!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish which has now found a lovely new home at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is to talk about about Bookish goals and resolutions but as I have already done a post about that here, I thought I would use this as an opportunity to elaborate more on one of those goals.

One of my reading goals for this year is to read more middle grade fiction. I have quite a few books on my shelf that I still haven’t picked up that are from within the middle grade boundary and so I plan to try and read more this year. Here are 10 that I’m hoping to read in 2018!

1. Sam Wu is NOT Afraid of Ghosts by Katie & Kevin Tsang

Sam Wu is Not Afraid of Ghosts

2. The Explorer by Katherine Rundell

The Explorer

3. Simply the Quest by Maz Evans

Simply the Quest (Who Let The Gods Out?, #2)

4. Sky Song by Abi Elphinstone

Sky Song

5. A Girl Called Owl by Amy Wilson

A Girl Called Owl

6. The Island at the End of Everything by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

The Island at the End of Everything

7. Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend

Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow

8. The Polar Bear Explorers’ Club by Alex Bell

The Polar Bear Explorers' Club

9. The Creakers by Tom Fletcher

The Creakers

10. The Dreamsnatcher by Abi Elphinstone

The Dreamsnatcher (Dreamsnatcher #1)

There are unintentionally a lot of blue covers on this list! There are so many great MG titles that I have missed out on and so this list really does only scratch the surface and I hope to discover some fabulous MG titles this year alongside my usual dosage of YA!

  2. All the best middle grade seem to have blue covers, I remember making up tables of MG books and it being like a sea of blue! Nevermoor is on my list too – it looks amazing and the hardback is so so beautiful!

  3. Nevermoor is amazing! One of my favourite books from last year. I really enjoyed A Girl Called Owl too. I would recommend any of Robin Stevens’ books, or Katherine Woodfine’s. Dave Rudden is kind of on the boundary between MG and YA, but I loved his Knights of the Borrowed Dark and its sequel last year.

  4. I ADORED Sky Song, and Polar Bears is MAGNIFICENT. Simply the Quest is phenomenal too, even better than Who Let the Gods Out in my eyes. A release coming this year I’d recommend especially is Brightstorm by Vashti Hardy, or the Eye of the North by Sinéad O Hart. Other general recommendations I’d give are Robin Stevens, Polly Ho-Yen (thought NOT her 2nd) and Emma Carroll. Do you have any specific tastes?
