Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely people at The Broke and the Bookish. This weeks challenge is in honour of Fall TV returning to our screens. I am a HUGE television fan so I am really excited about this weeks theme. I’m dedicating my post to my 10 favourite TV shows and I would LOVE to discuss them if you are also a fan! Here it goes…
1. House M.D
Featuring: Hugh Laurie, Lisa Edelstein, Jennifer Morrison, Jesse Spencer, Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps, Olivia Wilde
Genre: Medical Drama
Status: Concluded
Number of Seasons: 8
House is probably my favourite TV show ever. I made so many friends online during late night live streaming back over the years and I’m still friends with lots of these people today. I’ve probably watched the series a good 4/5 times from beginning to end. My favourite characters are Gregory House, Lisa Cuddy, Remy Hadley and Robert Chase. But really I just love everything about this show.
2. Downton Abbey
Featuring: Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Maggie Smith
Genre: Period Drama
Status: Concluded
Number of Seasons: 6
Downton Abbey means so much to me, you have no idea. I sobbed like a baby when this ended because I couldn’t believe it had come to an end. I adored the characters in this and my heart really ached with some of the storylines over the years. I’m so happy, however, that some of my favourite couples and characters got their happy endings. Some of my favourite characters are Lady Mary, Mrs Hughes, Carson, Anna and Tom.
3. Veep
Featuring: Julia Louis Dreyfus, Anna Chlumsky, Tony Hale, Hugh Laurie, Gary Cole, Reid Scott
Genre: Comedy
Status: Hiatus
Number of Seasons: 6
Veep is literally one of the best shows I’ve seen in recent years. It is absolutely hilarious, I can’t even explain how funny it is without you seeing it. JLD is absolutely genius in this but so are many of the other cast members. Selina, Amy and Gary are definitely my favourites. I also loved the edition of Hugh Laurie in recent seasons. You MUST watch this!
4. Grey’s Anatomy
Featuring: Ellen Pompeo, Jessica Capshaw, Sara Ramirez, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, Patrick Dempsey + 100 others
Genre: Medical Drama
Status: Hiatus
Number of Seasons: 13
When I first started watching Grey’s, I binge watched about 8 seasons in a period of 6 weeks. I was absolutely obsessed and I still am. I love this show so much but my gosh is it one heck of an emotional journey! I’ve loved, laughed and lost along the way but I will always have a special place for Grey’s. My favourite characters are Meredith, Bailey, Cristina, Callie, Arizona, Derek and Mark Sloan. Plus lots of others!
5. The Good Wife
Featuring: Julianna Margulies, Christine Baranski, Archie Panjabi, Alan Cumming, Josh Charles, Chris Roth, Matt Czuchry
Genre: Drama
Status: Concluded
Number of Seasons: 7
The Good Wife is a show that I am dearly going to miss. I love so many of the characters in this show and they’ve been on such a journey that it’s hard to say goodbye. My favourite characters are Diane, Khalinda and Alicia. I just really loved the women in this show but Diane in particular. I’m a big Christine Baranski fan and it’s such a shame this show isn’t returning, although it probably did end at a good time for the show.
6. Game of Thrones
Featuring: Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
Genre: Drama / Fantasy
Status: Hiatus
Number of Seasons: 8
Game of Thrones is one of those shows that I can’t stop watching. After watching the first season, I read all of the books and I’m enjoying watching them play out on TV. I am a little wary of what is going to happen now that the series is in front of the books but I’m sure I’ll enjoy it all the same. My favourite characters are Arya Stark, Sansa Stark, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, Brienne of Tarth and Jon Snow.
7. Orphan Black
Featuring: Tatiana Maslany (x100), Jordan Gavaris, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Evelyn Brochu
Genre: Drama / Sci Fi
Status: Hiatus
Number of Seasons: 5
The first time I watched Orphan Black it was a complete stroke of luck. I had seen adverts on TV and it looked interesting so I tuned in and 5 seasons later I am still hooked. I cannot get over how insanely talented Tatiana Maslany is. She plays so many different characters in the show but does it so well that I always forget they are all her. This show is fantastic! My favourite characters are Sarah Manning, S, Felix, Alison, Donnie, Cosima and Helena.
8. Suits
Featuring: Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman, Gina Torres, Sarah Rafferty and Meghan Markle
Genre: Drama
Status: Current
Number of Seasons: 7
I started watching Suits last summer when my brother persuaded me that I would really like it. He couldn’t have been more right! This show is not only very well written but it is absolutely hilarious. Louis Litt is such a sassy and just outright hilarious character. Coupled with really strong women in Donna, Jessica and Rachel, this show is right up my street and I’m really enjoying the current season.
9. Sons of Anarchy
Featuring: Katey Sagal, Charlie Hunnam, Marke Boone Junior, Kim Coates, Maggie Siff, Ron Perlman
Genre: Drama / Crime
Status: Concluded
Number of Seasons: 7
Oh, Sons. This was a show that I unexpectedly fell in love with. I tried it out because a friend of mine was raving about it but I ended up loving it. I loved the fact that all of these hardened criminals were such a tight and loving family. It was such a well written show and had so many great moments. My favourite characters were Gemma (absolute fave), Jax, Obie, Tig, Bobby and so many more.
10. Gilmore Girls
Featuring: Alexis Bledel, Lauren Graham, Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson, Yanic Truesdale, Kelly Bishop
Genre: Drama / Comedy
Status: Concluded but coming back soon!!
Number of Seasons: 7
I haven’t yet finished watching Gilmore Girls but it has to feature on this list because I am absolutely in love with this show. As I watch each episode, I am becoming more and more convinced that I am destined to be Lorelai! This show is not only heart-warming and lovely but absolutely hilarious. I love the sense of humour in this and the sarcastic comments (mainly from Lorelai). I love everything about it and am excited to see more in November!
I easily could have added another 10 shows here because I watch so many of them! If you want to see the full list, then check it out here!
What are your favourite TV shows? Do we have any in common?
Feel free to follow me on Twitter or Goodreads. Comments are always warmly welcome.
I just finished the second season of Veep, and now I’m torn. On the one hand, I liked the first couple seasons. On the other, it seems like the humor stakes are being raised and I worry that going forward, it’s gonna go more and more in the direction of caricature. (Remember what happened in later 30 Rock?)
(That and the first two seasons were available for streaming. If I want to continue, I’m gonna have to commit.)

Yeah, Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones!! Some of my favorite shows as well. I started watching Gilmore Girls last year, but then got distracted and didn’t get past season two. I should really pick it up again.

She was so good! Hey, have you watched the Animal Kingdom TV show with Ellen Barkin? She reminds me a lot of Gemma in that show.
