Weekly Wrap-Up #28

Books of the Week

Wild: A Journey from Lost to Found  Summer Days, Summer Nights

July is turning into a somewhat steady month of reading. Slower than I expected. Today I finished listening to the audiobook of Wild: A Journey From Lost to Found by Cheryl Strayed. I had been putting this book off for quite a long time but I have found listening to it much more rewarding. I’ve come to discover that I prefer to listen to memoirs rather than read them, I think it makes them more personal. I really enjoyed listening to Cheryl’s story. It felt like a novel at times and I loved the way in which she flicked back and forth between her life story and her time on the PCT. My review on Goodreads is here (it will probably be up on the blog in a week or so). Alongside listening to Wild, I have also been treating myself to some stories from the Summery Days and Summer Nights anthology which was edited by Stephanie Perkins. I absolutely adore this book and its sunny appearance. The cover is a pastel baby blue and the pages contrast with a bright yellow edge – the perfect summer read. So far I’ve read 5 of the short stories and I’ve enjoyed most of them, although discovering that some of them are tinged with sadness was a little surprising.

Films of the Week

Woops – I’ve not watched any movies this week! I do have a cinema trip planned for next week though!

Films watched in 2016: 42/100

TV of the Week

So my week consisted of the following TV shows:

Rizzoli & Isles Poster  Pretty Little Liars Poster

Suits Poster  Bones Poster

This week I finished Orange is the New Black and caught up with my usual shows. Bones left us on a HUGE cliffhanger for its final season so that was both frustrating and exciting. I am really loving the sixth season of Suits so far. This time last year I hadn’t even started it (it was my summer binge) but now I literally cannot wait for the next episodes.

You’ll remember that last week I said I would be looking for a summer show to watch. Well, I decided to pick Gilmore Girls! It was added to Netflix not too long ago and I felt that I wanted something a little more light-hearted to binge on. Low and behold, I’ve watched 16 episodes in two days… It’s safe to say that I already adore Lorelai, Rory is the cutest kid in the world and Sookie reminds me of me (sense of humour-wise)! I already ship Lorelai and Luke and will refuse to ackowledge any other relationships she may enter during the course of my binge.

Blogposts of the Week

Finally…

So I am FINALLY on summer break! I don’t have to go back to work until September 1st which means you can expect to see a lot more of me on here. I’ll be reading a lot more and making time for some more movies etc. I plan to spend my time this summer in a mix between visiting friends (several of whom have just had or are having babies this summer), spending time with family, going to London and complete relaxation. I love this time of year. I need to spend a bit of time with myself this summer and I also want to try and get fitter. I’m not normally a runner but I’m considering going running as lots of people tell me it’s a great way to clear your head. I’m just not sure I’ve got the confidence to just go and run in the street! Does anyone have any tips?!

Hope you have a great week everyone!

Do you have any opinions on the above books? Or maybe you’ve seen one of the same movies as me or are a fan of the TV shows I watch? Get in touch!

  1. Yay for summer break!

I also find I do better with memoirs in audiobook form… It makes it feel as if I’m having a chat with a friend!

I can lend some advice for running. Start off with walking and slowly increase distance and speed over time. Try the couch to 5k program as it really eases you into running. Also, I listen to audiobooks when I run as it takes my mind off of the running part lol
