Having read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness over Christmas, I just knew I had to see this movie. It didn’t take much persuading to get the family to come along so the four of us took a trip to the cinema this week to watch this wonderful movie.
I knew this movie would reduce me to tears but even I wasn’t prepared for the completely wet face that I had for the last 20-30 minutes of this movie. For me, this was an exceptional adaptation of the book. It had just the right atmosphere and I found myself lost in Conor’s world. Visually this film is absolutely stunning.
Lewis MacDougall does a fantastic job as Conor. Gosh can that boy act. He brings just the right amount of raw emotion to the role, whether it be anger or sadness, he really truly became the Conor that I knew from the book. Felicity Jones and Signourney Weaver were also fantastic.
This movie has become a firm favourite of mine, although it is not one I will watch very often as there is only so much heartbreak my little heart can take. This really broke me and also had my brother sobbing in the cinema too. I highly recommend to anyone and everyone but take the tissues with you!

I saw the movie yesterday. I thought it was great. The kid did a great job and I tried so hard not to cry at the end but failed. haha I just love how honest the story is compared to some of the other cancer type stories I’ve seen/read. Also, the tree monster was epic looking.
