Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing my reading challenge progress with you all! Back at the beginning of 2017 I shared a post with you talking about my 2017 Reading Challenges and now we are in September I thought it would be a good time to look back and see where I’m at and what is left to be done! It’s pretty clear to me that I’m not going to complete some of these challenges but it’ll still be fun to tick off a few more boxes along the way!
Goodreads Challenges
My Goodreads challenge goal is 100 books in 2017. At the time of writing this I’ve read 82/100 books which is 12 books ahead of schedule (apparently!). I am 100% confident that I’ll read another 18 books before the year is out so it’ll be interesting to see how far above the goal I get. Some of my favourite reads of 2017 so far have been A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard, Wing Jones by Katherine Webber and The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. I’ve read a lot of excellent books this year so it will be hard to pick my top 10 faves at the end of the year!
As well as the main Goodreads challenge, I also take part in a fair few yearly challenges through a group I am a part of. Here’s a quick overview of how I’m doing on those. Some I’ve completed and others I’m close to completing, there are a couple I am doubtful I will complete but that doesn’t bother me. I’ve become much more of a mood reader this year and I’m enjoying it that way!
- Let’s Turn Pages: 29,608/38,000 pages
- Popsugar 2017 Challenge: 35/30 books – complete! (01.08.2017)
- The Listopia Challenge: 14/20 books
- TBR Randomiser Challenge: 7/10 books
- Top Ten Faves: 3/8 books
- The Colour Challenge: 15/15 books – complete! (25.08.2017)
- Serial Reader Challenge: 25/26 books
- A-Z Location Challenge: 26/26 books – complete! (16.08.2017)
- My Favourite Things: 17/20 books
- Modern Mrs Darcy: 9/12 books
Here’s a glimpse at some of the books I will need to read before the year’s out to make progress on these challenges!
British Books Challenge
The aim of this challenge is to encourage readers to read one book by a British author / British books each month. With the aim being twelve books, I knew I would smash through this challenge, especially as I am such a huge fan of UKYA novels. The trick for me has been linking my reviews in the same month as I read them meaning I’ve entered 22 books for the challenge at this time, although I’ve read many more British books this year! It’s definitely be fun taking part though and I’m continuing with it even though I completed by goal a while ago! Check my progress and linked reviews here.
2017 Beat the Backlist
I’ve only been casually taking part in this challenge and despite pledging that I would read 40 books from my backlist (books on the TBR/shelves before the start of 2017), I’ve currently only read 19 of those! I’ve been massively invested in 2017 releases this year – there have been SO many of them! I do have plans to read some more books from my backlist although it is very doubtful I will make it to 40! Here are a few of the many that are still on my list:
#DiversityBingo2017
I’ve currently read 12/36 books on the bingo card and looking at the card I do have one or two more books that I can add to this that I’ve read and not updated but I’m still hugely behind on this challenge. I don’t think I’ll read all the books on my TBR by the end of the year but I may carry this challenge over as I definitely do want to read all of the wonderful diverse books on my list.
I’m really pleased with how my reading is going in 2017. I’ve read LOTS of wonderful books so far and I’m confident that I’ll complete my Goodreads goal and some of my mini challenges on there. Unfortunately, I don’t anticipte being able to complete my goals for Beat the Backlist and DiversityBingo2017 for this year but I’ll certainly be keeping the books on my TBR!
Here are 5 books I will be reading towards my challenges before the end of the year…

That’s so awesome! Way to go! The only yearly challenge I’ve done this year is the Goodreads one, but I want to pick up a few next year. 🙂

Thanks! Yeah I only did one last year and even though I probably won’t complete them all it’s been fun to take part!

It looks like you’re doing quite well! I just recently finished my Goodreads goal of reading 50 books and now I’m really looking forward to seeing how many more I read, haha. The Kite Runner is SUCH a good book – I hope you like it!!

I definitely need to read The Kite Runner before the end of the year, I’ve owned it for way too long now!

I am in the same boat as you with the Beat the Backlist challenge. I think I have only read 14 books toward that this year. I have only completed 1 of the 5 challenges I have participated in this year but there are a couple that I am pretty close to completing.

Good luck with your remaining challenges! I don’t mind if I don’t complete them, it’s the taking part that counts, right?

Thank you!! Yeah I’m not gonna beat myself up over it like you said it the act of just participating and trying.

Wow you’ve read a lot of books this year! My Goodreads challenge was to read 12 books, as I am a slow reader and I have so much going on right now. I’ve read 13 this year so far, which is good for me and a lot more to get through!
