Hi everyone! This is the first of two Children of Blood and Bone posts going up on my blog today to celebrate the recent release of this stunning debut novel from Tomi Adeyemi. In this first post I’ll be sharing with you which Maji clan I belong to and talking to you a bit about that. You’ll also have the chance to see which Maji clan you belong too and I’d love to hear your thoughts.
For those of you wondering what the heck a Maji clan are, let me explain. In Children of Blood and Bone the maji are the people with magic. At least they were before the Raid when all the Maji were killed. Now the maji exist without magic running through their blood but are easily recongised by their distinct white hair. Zélie is a maji (or a diviner as they are called without their magic) and once she realises that there is a way to bring magic back to Orisha, there is just no stopping her.
So what clan are you in? I hear you shout…
I’m part of the Ina Clan and my deity (because the Gods are important!) is Ochumare. This makes me a Lighter meaning that I can manipulate light and darkness!
I would absolutely love this power for a number of reasons. The first is just pure laziness because I love to read in bed but that’s far from the light switch (talk about a first world problem!). I really think that being able to manipulate light and darkness would be so helpful in many ways. I would like to think that this is a type of magic that could be used to help others and that I would be able to do good things with it. For example, being able to light areas where some form of disaster has happened to be able to retrieve bodies/people.
Here is a little aesthetic I’ve made to represent my clan. This is the first time I’ve done anything like this so I’ve tried to keep it simple but I like the contrast of light and dark.
I loved this book a LOT and you can read my review for yourselves later on today! It’ll be posting this afternoon but for now, check out the image below to find out which Maji clan you are in!
Huge thanks to the lovely Bea at Macmillan Children’s Books for my proof copy and for allowing me to be part of the blog tour! I can’t wait to find out what clans you are all part of, please let me know in the comments below!
