What are you currently reading?
Downton Abbey: A Celebration is still slowly on the go, but only because I’m trying to keep the Downton spirit alive! Today, I have started to read My Life On The Road by Gloria Steinem. I hadn’t heard of this book before, but I love that Emma Watson has started her own little book club. I think it’s a great way to get more people reading, especially teenagers. So I decided that even if I don’t end up having time to contribute to the discussions on her page, I can still read the books that she suggests.
What did you recently finish reading?
I’ve squeezed in another three books this week. I’m now on my 10th of the month, which is more than I usually get through. The morning commute definitely helps! This week I read The Bell Jar, which I thought was a really powerful and important book. I related to so much of what was being said and it’s had a really profound affect on me. I also read Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas and today I finished Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers. I have always loved the film so I was a bit apprehensive when I first started the book; however, I fell in love with the book Mary Poppins just as much as Julie Andrew’s version. If anything, we get even more adventures with her in the book! It transported me straight back to my childhood in every turn of the page.
What do you think you’ll read next?
Next up on my list is All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. I’ve seen a lot of reviews giving this book 4 or 5 stars, but a few of my favourite reviewers have rated it much lower so I’m intrigued to see what I’ll make of it. I can never resist a good YA book and this seems to tick my usual boxes!

You have a great selection of books here. I much prefer visiting blogs that have a mix of older books that I will have never seen or heard of rather than all new releases. I really want to read Mary Poppins now!

I’m so pleased Mary Poppins is every bit as good as the film. I imagined it would be 🙂
I love The Bell Jar. I think it’s one of the most affecting depictions of depression from a depressive’s point of view I’ve ever come across. And, as you’d expect from a poet, the imagery in there stays with you. I always remember the bit about the main character not liking chemistry and physics because they took beautiful words and reduced them to little symbols, but biology was ok because it had such fantastic unusual words like xylem!

It really was. There are a lot of differences but I love both equally, which doesn’t usually happen! I completely fell in love with The Bell Jar, it’s such an important book! I can’t believe I’ve only just read it! (I’ve commented on your WWW but your books looked great!! A few which are on my TBR!)
