Happy New Year! I’m sure that 2017 is just as welcome to everyone else as it is to me. There were plenty of highlights in 2016 but also plenty of things that I’m happy to be leaving behind me. That being said, here is a loose January TBR followed by some goals of mine for 2017! Let me know what you think!

January TBR
This year I’ve decided that I’m not going to be making rigid TBR lists each month like I did last year. I found that often this stopped me from feeling motivated to read particular books. Instead, I am going to select those books that I will be excited to read in that month, for example, new releases, and then just read whatever else tickles my pickle at the time!
Here are the books I am excited to definitely read in January!
A Quiet Kind of Thunder – I started reading this today and I am already in love with it!
Caraval – I feel like I’ve been excited for this book for my whole life! I also can’t wait to see which of the four beautiful covers I get!
Wing Jones – This book is everywhere on Twitter and I’m super excited to read it, I’ve heard such great things and the book itself is gorgeous!
Another book I will hopefully read this month is Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake. I have two copies of this and absolutely no excuse as to why I haven’t read it yet!
All in all I am hoping to read 8 books this month which I think is manageable (don’t quote me on that though!)
It’s that time of year where we all share our goals and aspirations with the world. So here are my bookish goals for 2017!
- Read 100 books
- Read more diversely
- Be more consistent on my blog and stick to my posting schedule
- Be more proactive in commenting on other blogs
- Cross post my reviews
- Not to get TOO keen on Netgalley and actually catch up on my eARCS before requesting more
- Reduce my TBR by not buying 100000000 books this year
- Go to YALC 2017
- Get more involved in Twitter chats (follow me: @kellysrambles)
Most importantly, I just really want to enjoy my reading and pick books to read that I’m reading simply because I want to. There is such much pressure out there to read or not read certain books and actually, if I want to read something, then I will.
What are your bookish goals for 2017? How many books are you hoping to read? Comment below with the books you are hoping to read in January!

Cant wait to see what you think of Caraval and Three Dark Crowns! I’ve had my eye on them.
I love all of your 2017 goals too. I also need to get my NetGalley under control and not buy hundreds of new books… keeping my fingers crossed for the both of us lol

Haha I shall keep my fingers and toes crossed! It will be so hard but I pre-ordered some of my most highly anticipated releases before Christmas so hopefully receiving those at random times will put the need for a book buying binge at bay? Who knows!!

Looking forward to your review of Wing Jones, I’ve seen it as one of the spotlight posts over on the British Book Challenge, perhaps not one of my usual first choices but I’ve decided 2017 is about widening my reading habits so it’s on my to read list. Would love to know what you thought of it when you get to it.
My book goals for the year are to get back into reading for me, couldn’t stop as a child, 4 years of textbooks at university drained me slightly and with work I’ve been far too slow about getting back into picking up a book so for me 2017 is definitely about taking some me time, curling up on the sofa with a cup of tea and a good book.

I’m so excited for my copy of Wing Jones to arrive because they look so gorgeous with their coloured edges! Will definitely review it once I’m done 🙂
That sounds like a wonderful goal! I was similar last year, I just really wanted to fall back in love with reading and I did! I hope it works out for you too 🙂

Looking forward for your review of A Quiet Kind of Thunder then 🙂 I am both excited and scared for Caraval. And those covers ❤ You’re right.
I hope you complete your 2017 goals (wow, 100 books, you go!) and enjoy your reads! I have set my goal on 24 and I’d like to catch up on some book series. Good idea about leaving your TBR open for the month.

Thanks! 24 is also a great goal 🙂 it’s more about enjoying the books than the number of books, I just read a lot and quite fast. I finished AQKOT and adore it!! My review will be up later this week -it’s long!!

I just hope I can read without worrying about how many books I’m reading. I want to enjoy them!
Already? That’s great! I’ll be waiting for the review then! If it’s long is because you were pasionate, I’m sure 😉

This year is a year of falling back in love with writing, it’s been years since I’ve really done any kind of writing and I’ve missed it terribly.
I’m setting myself a small list of books each month that I need to read (2 nonfiction, 1 blind date, 2 anything). I think the book I’m looking forward to the most this month is The Invisible Library.
