Sunday Summary 29.10.2017

Hi everyone! After a very difficult week I am really relieved to finally have a week off. I need some time for me and to process recent events and it will be nice to do that away from work. I don’t have a lot planned but I do hope to get in some quality reading time.

bookish-updates

A Skinful of Shadows  The Extinction Trials (The Extinction Trials #1)  Charlotte Says (Red Eye)

I’ve read 3 books so far this week and I’ve started on the Slasher Girls & Monster Boys anthology too. I thoroughly enjoyed A Skinful of Shadows by Frances Hardinge. Makepeace is such a wonderful character and her story was tainted with so much emotion, I just loved it. Next up was a book that’s not out until January but I devoured The Extinction Trials by S.M. Wilson in just a few hours yesterday. This book is so exhilarating, more about it later…! This afternoon I’ve inhaled Charlotte Says by Alex Bell. This is the prequel to Frozen Charlotte which I read last week and although it wasn’t as scary, it was definitely still a great read and I enjoyed being reunited with those creepy dolls – something I never thought you’d catch me saying!

I have some post to pick up at the beginning of the week but for now I’ll share with you some exciting NetGalley approvals – thanks MyKindaBook!

Out of the Blue  Renegades (Renegades, #1)

I tend to love everything that MyKindaBook publishes so I’m excited to have been approved for these. Especially Renegades by Marissa Meyer which won’t be released in the UK until April 2018!

book-of-the-week

The Extinction Trials (The Extinction Trials #1)

I was lucky enough to receive a proof of The Extinction Trials from the lovely Stevie at Usborne a few months ago and decided to pick it up as part of my HalloweenWR tbr. Boy am I glad that I did! This book is incredible. I thought it was original whilst also giving nods to what you expect from a dystopian. I loved the idea of the Trials and Piloria both excited and terrified me. The writing is so beautiful and the world was easy to visualise (both the lush settings and the horrors that hide there!). It was easy to empathise with the characters and I really rooted for both Storm and Lincoln. I can’t wait for this to be released so I can shout about it with everyone!

I have a week off now and as I said above, I am in some real need of time for myself. I have a lot to deal with at the moment and I’ve not been able to deal with that properly whilst still being in work. I’m looking forward to plenty of ‘me’ time and reading time too.

I’m also on track to complete my Halloween Readathon TBR as I only have one book left and I’m already partway through it. The book is Slasher Girls and Monster Boys which is a YA horror anthology. I’m reading it for the ‘After Sunset’ challenge and if I can read a few stories tonight and some tomorrow I should be done before Halloween.

What are your Halloween plans?

Have a wonderful week! ❤
