The Headmaster’s List by Melissa De La Cruz | Book Review

The Headmaster’s List is a pacy YA thriller with plenty of unexpected reveals along the way. Check out my full thoughts below. Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Children’s UK and Melissa de la Cruz for my early copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Title: The Headmaster’s List

Author: Melissa De La Cruz

Genre: Contemporary, Thriller

Publisher: Macmillan Children’s UK

Release Date: 2nd March 2023

My Rating:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The blurb for this book really had me hooked in so I was thrilled to receive a copy from the publisher to review. I love a YA mystery/thriller and this one certainly did not disappoint. Right up until the last pages I was hooked and did not see the big reveal coming until the very last second when I started to piece it all together.

Following a fatal car crash, Spencer is picking up the pieces of her new life alongside therapy dog Ripley. Determined that ex-boyfriend Ethan isn’t actually to blame, Spencer and Jackson set out to uncover the truth with their own investigation. Spencer can’t remember the night of the crash and as her life seemingly spirals out of control lots of truths are uncovered before an epic reveal at the end! I loved Spencer as a protagonist and found myself wanting to protect her at all costs. I HAVE to mention Ripley because who doesn’t love a dog but especially a therapy dog who doesn’t leave Spencer’s side – the good or the bad!

Highly recommend this novel if you think you’ll enjoy One of Us is Lying with a slightly Pretty Little Things/Gossip Girl vibe! Pacy, addictive and intriguing!
