Sunday Summary 22.10.2017

Hi everyone! This week things have started to feel a little better, it’s still not great but it’s getting there. I treated myself to a reading day yesterday and enjoyed 2 fab books.

bookish-updates

Michael's Spear  Scarecrow  Goodbye, Perfect

Frozen Charlotte  A Skinful of Shadows

This week has been a good reading week. I finished two books for upcoming blog tours: Michael’s Spear by Hilton Pashley and Scarecrow by Danny Weston. I rated both with three stars as I thought they were okay books but they didn’t blow me away. Saturday I treated myself to a reading day and was lucky enough to read Goodbye, Perfect by Sara Barnard which isn’t out until 2018. I absolutely flipping LOVED this book and you probably won’t hear the end of me talking about it for a long, long time. Then I jumped into Frozen Charlotte by Alex Bell which was deliciously creepy and everything I hoped it would be. I’m looking forward to reading the prequel! My current read is A Skinful of Shadows by Frances Hardinge.

I haven’t bought any books this week – go me! I have been lucky enough to receive some lovely bookpost though and some NetGalley approvals so I’ll share those.

My absolute favourite bookpost this week came from the lovely Bea at Macmillan. These MyKindaBook proofs are absolutely gorgeous and I’ve already devoured Goodbye, Perfect by Sara Barnard. I was also lucky to get I Am Thunder by Muhammad Khan which sounds like a really hard hitting read that I’m sure I’ll be keen to share with the kids I teach too.

The lovely folk at HotKey Books sent me this lovely package earlier in the week. A proof of the upcoming Love, Hate & Other Filters which included a cute postcard and a film board pin. Looking forward to reading this one very much!

Yesterday this spooky treat arrived on my doorstep from the lovely Sweet Cherry Publishing. I must admit I did jump when I saw the little spiders!! Also looking forward to treating myself to the sweet treats whilst reading this MG novel.

My gorgeous bookish friend Steph sent me this care package which is so sweet of her. It included a lovely notebook and chocolate as well as her proof of The Last Namsara which I’ve been hearing lots of great things about.

Purple Hearts (Front Lines, #3)  Meet Cute: Some People Are Destined to Meet  The Girl in The Tower (The Bear and the Nightingale #2)

I was approved for 3 great books this week too. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens to our leading ladies in Purple Hearts by Michael Grant (the UK cover isn’t on GR atm!). I recently picked up a copy of Katherine Arden’s first novel so I’m pleased to have the second instalment The Girl in the Tower ready to read after. Then I was also approved for Meet Cute which is an anthology featuring lots of great authors.

I have literally no chill when it comes to Sara Barnard and her books so it is no surprise that I absolutely loved reading her upcoming 2018 release, Goodbye, Perfect. Eden has easily become one of my favourite EVER main characters. I love how refreshing her voice is and that she is so far from being perfect. She feels so real. The plot was really interesting and intense, especially as I am a teacher myself. There’s also the cutest romance and really excellent friendships and family relationships too. PERFECTION.

The week ahead is going to be a very difficult one and I’m very anxious about it but I know that it will end up okay because I have great people around me.

After this week I will have 9 days off and I’m really looking forward to relaxing and doing a LOT of reading.

Have a wonderful week! ❤

  1. Glad to hear that this week has been slightly better 💜

I’ve had loads of time to read over my half term, and I think I’ve read 10 books since I broke up. Some favourites include The Trials of Morrigan Crow, the Mystery of the Midnight Peacock, the Eye of the North, the Witch’s Tears and Goodbye, Perfect.

My posts this week have been an anthology review (https://goldenbooksgirl.wordpress.com/2017/10/17/mystery-and-mayhem-pt-1/), some seasonal recommendations (https://goldenbooksgirl.wordpress.com/2017/10/19/some-slightly-spooky-autumnal-recommendations/), the Coffee Book Tag (https://goldenbooksgirl.wordpress.com/2017/10/21/6the-coffee-book-tag/) and a Six for Sunday post today (https://goldenbooksgirl.wordpress.com/2017/10/22/sixforsunday-books-that-made-me-cry/)

Really hope this week goes okay for you,
    Amy xx
