Fandom Frenzy | Erin @ A Redhead’s Rambling

Hi everyone! For today’s #FandomFrenzy I am pleased to introduce Erin from A Redhead’s Rambling. Erin blogs about books, products and lots of different things. Definitely go and check out her blog! Erin has chosen a really unique fictional world (one I’d never heard of!).

What fictional world would you most like to find yourself in?

I’d love to find myself in The Witches of the Glass Castle for the chance to attend the Glass Castle school for new witches in order to discover and perfect my powers! Just imagining walking amongst witches in a special school ran by a mysterious woman is enough to make me excited.

Which characters in that world would you choose to be your closest allies? Why?

I quite liked the best friend that Mia, the protagonist, chose so I’d stick with Kizzy. Kizzy is your typical, outgoing best friend. She’s completely opposite to me but I think that would really work; sometimes I just need someone to make the plans and get me out of bed! She’s also a rule follower which I love and, unlike the unruly protagonist in The Witches of the Glass Castle, we’d have a safe and quiet time harnessing our witches powers!

Which characters do you think would be your enemies? (This doesn’t have to be the ‘canon’ villain!)

In the Glass Castle there are two types of people – witches and Hunters. Both are similar but worlds apart, with Hunters being witches born to be what their name suggests. Whilst I don’t think they are the ‘enemies’ as such, I’d probably fear their presence. I don’t want to say too much about the Hunters or the villains of the book in case I spoil it for you all!

How do you think you would cope walking in the shoes of that fandom’s protagonist?

Probably not very well at all. It must be a shock to live a normal life and suddenly an event sparks your powers. This isn’t a traditional school like Hogwarts, full of lessons to guide you, so I’d be frustrated trying to work out my personal power when I have no idea what it could be. Although I’d probably cope a lot better than Mia because I’m a rule follower who loves order, unlike her! I’d be one of those quiet students you hear about in the background of novels, just trying to do my own thing amongst all the chaos.

Which part of the story would you most like to try and change as the new protagonist? (Try and keep it spoiler free!)

I’d most like to change the relationship between Mia and her brother, Dino. Whilst I praised the novel for creating a really realistic sibling relationship, I wish they had been a little bit nicer to each other. They argued so much that they ended up being each other’s problems so I’d try to communicate more. That being said, we all know what it’s like to argue with your brother or sister so it’s easy to say I’d show my brother some love in hindsight but I know I’d be just as stubborn as Mia and Dino!

BONUS: Which fictional world wouldn’t you like to find yourself waking up in? Why?

This is a very obvious answer but I definitely wouldn’t want to wake up in Panem. Whilst The Hunger Games is one of my favourite series and creates the most vivid world, there is no way I’d want to live there. I’d probably live in District 12 and knowing my luck I’d be chosen as a tribute – what a terrifying thought!

Before reading Erin’s answers I had never heard of The Witches of the Glass Castle but it sounds right up my street (I can hear my TBR groaning…). I am a sucker for books with magic. Kizzy sounds like the kind of BFF I would choose for myself too! Once again the infamous Panem strikes! I definitely wouldn’t survive the Hunger Games!

A HUGE thanks to the lovely Erin for participating in this feature and introducing me (and maybe you) to a new book. You can find out more about Erin on her blog and follow her on Twitter too!
